1. Prior to this activity, how would you rank yourself in knowledge about the topic. (1-No Knowledge at atll, 2-Very Little Knowledge, 3-Some knowledge, 4-A good amount of knowledge, 5-I knew all about this)
Before this field activity I would gauge my knowledge of the subject of UAV's at a meager 2-very little knowledge.
2. Following this activity, how would you rate the amount of knowledge you have on the topic (1- I don’t really know enough to talk about the topic, 2- I know enough to explain what I did, 3-I know enough to repeat what I did, 4-I know enough to teach someone else, 5- I am an expert)
After the activity was completed I would consider my knowledge on the topic to be somewhere near a 3 or 4 on the above scale.
3. Did the hands-on approach to this activity add to how much you were able to learn (1-Strongly Disagree, 2-Disagree, 3-No real opinion, 4-Agree, 5-Strongly Agree)
There wasn't much of a hands on process for the research that we did for the UAS mission planning, but I would say that the research gave me the ability to learn well. I would 4-agree.
4. What types of learning strategies would you recommend to make the activity even better?
I would recommend this activity to have more thorough instructions. I felt like I was grasping in the dark for answers of how to complete this activity and it was frustrating.
Evaluation for Field Activity #4:
1. Prior to this activity, how would you rank yourself in knowledge about the topic. (1-No Knowledge at atll, 2-Very Little Knowledge, 3-Some knowledge, 4-A good amount of knowledge, 5-I knew all about this)
Before this field activity I would gauge my knowledge of the subject surveying at a 2, but my knowledge on the TruPulse a 4 since I had previously used it to make an example of a cross section of the Little Missouri River.
2. Following this activity, how would you rate the amount of knowledge you have on the topic (1- I don’t really know enough to talk about the topic, 2- I know enough to explain what I did, 3-I know enough to repeat what I did, 4-I know enough to teach someone else, 5- I am an expert)

After the activity was completed I would consider my knowledge on the topic to be somewhere near a 4 because it definitely caught my interest which usually results in a higher outcome of knowledge.
3. Did the hands-on approach to this activity add to how much you were able to learn (1-Strongly Disagree, 2-Disagree, 3-No real opinion, 4-Agree, 5-Strongly Agree)
The hands-on approach of this activity allowed me to learn at a higher level since I had to problem solve in the field. I would have to give this section a 5 just because of the problem solving and quick decision making that lead to solid results.
4. What types of learning strategies would you recommend to make the activity even better?
I would recommend using even more points and possibly over an even greater area. It would be much better if this course were taught in the spring so students wouldn't have to worry about the snow and cold.
Evaluation for Field Activity #5:
1. Prior to this activity, how would you rank yourself in knowledge about the topic. (1-No Knowledge at atll, 2-Very Little Knowledge, 3-Some knowledge, 4-A good amount of knowledge, 5-I knew all about this)
I would rank myself at a 4 before this activity, but as Al taught us more I realized that I didn't know as much as I had originally thought. The course was actually pretty helpful.
2. Following this activity, how would you rate the amount of knowledge you have on the topic (1- I don’t really know enough to talk about the topic, 2- I know enough to explain what I did, 3-I know enough to repeat what I did, 4-I know enough to teach someone else, 5- I am an expert)

After the activity I would still place myself at a 4, but this time an actual 4. Al's lesson was very helpful.
3. Did the hands-on approach to this activity add to how much you were able to learn (1-Strongly Disagree, 2-Disagree, 3-No real opinion, 4-Agree, 5-Strongly Agree)
The hands-on approach of this activity helped me learn at a higher level. I would say a 5-strongly agree would be valid for this question.
4. What types of learning strategies would you recommend to make the activity even better?
If at all possible I would suggest actually going outside for this activity. I think a more active learning approach would be very helpful.
Evaluation for Field Activity #6:
1. Prior to this activity, how would you rank yourself in knowledge about the topic. (1-No Knowledge at atll, 2-Very Little Knowledge, 3-Some knowledge, 4-A good amount of knowledge, 5-I knew all about this)
I would rank my knowledge of geodatabase construction at a 5 since I have taken many GIS courses.
2. Following this activity, how would you rate the amount of knowledge you have on the topic (1- I don’t really know enough to talk about the topic, 2- I know enough to explain what I did, 3-I know enough to repeat what I did, 4-I know enough to teach someone else, 5- I am an expert)

I would still place myself at a 5, with maybe a little more solidity since I really had to tug at my memories for a good review.
3. Did the hands-on approach to this activity add to how much you were able to learn (1-Strongly Disagree, 2-Disagree, 3-No real opinion, 4-Agree, 5-Strongly Agree)
The hands-on approach of this activity wasn't really able to help me learn since I already had a good understanding of the study area. However, it was a good way to go over and review. I would say a 3.
4. What types of learning strategies would you recommend to make the activity even better?
I don't really have a good suggestion here since it seemed pretty self explanatory for me. I would suggest seeing the blogs of others that don't have as strong of a background in GIS.
Evaluation for Field Activity #7:
1. Prior to this activity, how would you rank yourself in knowledge about the topic. (1-No Knowledge at atll, 2-Very Little Knowledge, 3-Some knowledge, 4-A good amount of knowledge, 5-I knew all about this)
Prior to the copter and kite activity I would have ranked my knowledge of these devices at a 2 because I haven't really worked with unmanned aerial vehicles in my life. I am not really familiar with the process of these devices taking imagery either.
2. Following this activity, how would you rate the amount of knowledge you have on the topic (1- I don’t really know enough to talk about the topic, 2- I know enough to explain what I did, 3-I know enough to repeat what I did, 4-I know enough to teach someone else, 5- I am an expert)

Evaluation for Field Activity #8:
1. Prior to this activity, how would you rank yourself in knowledge about the topic. (1-No Knowledge at atll, 2-Very Little Knowledge, 3-Some knowledge, 4-A good amount of knowledge, 5-I knew all about this)
I would have ranked my knowledge of microclimates at a 4 prior to this event because I am currently enrolled in the weather class as well, where we have worked with microclimates too.
2. Following this activity, how would you rate the amount of knowledge you have on the topic (1- I don’t really know enough to talk about the topic, 2- I know enough to explain what I did, 3-I know enough to repeat what I did, 4-I know enough to teach someone else, 5- I am an expert)

Following the activity I would rate my knowledge at a 3 because I did learn a lot about the devices and how they work, but am still not fully comfortable with the idea of being able to utilize them by myself.
3. Did the hands-on approach to this activity add to how much you were able to learn (1-Strongly Disagree, 2-Disagree, 3-No real opinion, 4-Agree, 5-Strongly Agree)
I would consider the hands-on approach of this activity a 4 because the entire activity was out in the field and learning from Professor Hupy. Without his lecturing on these devices I wouldn't know what I do now.
4. What types of learning strategies would you recommend to make the activity even better?
I would suggest more in class input and lecturing since I really felt like I came into this activity dumb and blind. I had almost no previous knowledge of these devices and it would have be valuable to have some backgro

Following the activity I would rate my knowledge near a 5 because of the strenuous amount of work that was put into the collection and understanding of the data.
3. Did the hands-on approach to this activity add to how much you were able to learn (1-Strongly Disagree, 2-Disagree, 3-No real opinion, 4-Agree, 5-Strongly Agree)
I would consider the hands-on approach of this activity at a very high level. It helped me to learn how to use the Juno device, understand weather data and connect the the device to the desktop unit.
4. What types of learning strategies would you recommend to make the activity even better?
In order to better serve this activity I would suggest doing the project during better weather or rather warmer weather. Other than the weather issue, I thought that this activity went very well.
Evaluation for Field Activity #9:
1. Prior to this activity, how would you rank yourself in knowledge about the topic. (1-No Knowledge at atll, 2-Very Little Knowledge, 3-Some knowledge, 4-A good amount of knowledge, 5-I knew all about this)
I would have ranked my knowledge of total stations at a 1 before this activity because I had literally never seen the device before. I had heard of surveying, but never to this level.
2. Following this activity, how would you rate the amount of knowledge you have on the topic (1- I don’t really know enough to talk about the topic, 2- I know enough to explain what I did, 3-I know enough to repeat what I did, 4-I know enough to teach someone else, 5- I am an expert)

Following the activity I would rate my knowledge a 3 because I think that I could attempt to replicate what I did in the field, but I still am not proficient with the device. I would need to spend more time surveying to best understand how the device works.
3. Did the hands-on approach to this activity add to how much you were able to learn (1-Strongly Disagree, 2-Disagree, 3-No real opinion, 4-Agree, 5-Strongly Agree)
I would consider the hands-on approach of this activity at a 4 because Professor Hupy's lecture in the field on how to use the device was nearly invaluable because of the trouble shooting methods that he applied to the device and helped us work through.
4. What types of learning strategies would you recommend to make the activity even better?
Additional time working with the Topcon total station would be helpful to make this activity better.
Evaluation for Field Activity #10:
1. Prior to this activity, how would you rank yourself in knowledge about the topic. (1-No Knowledge at atll, 2-Very Little Knowledge, 3-Some knowledge, 4-A good amount of knowledge, 5-I knew all about this)
I would have ranked my knowledge of balloon mapping as a UAS before this activity as a 2 because I really hadn't hear much about it other than the fact that it was an option. I would rank my knowledge of the tools that need to be used to get a final image at a 1 though because I had never heard or used any of it.
2. Following this activity, how would you rate the amount of knowledge you have on the topic (1- I don’t really know enough to talk about the topic, 2- I know enough to explain what I did, 3-I know enough to repeat what I did, 4-I know enough to teach someone else, 5- I am an expert)

Following the activity I would rate my knowledge a 3 because I think that I now could replicate what we did in the class minus rigging the cameras to work the way that Joe had them rigged. I feel as though I learned a lot about balloon mapping.
3. Did the hands-on approach to this activity add to how much you were able to learn (1-Strongly Disagree, 2-Disagree, 3-No real opinion, 4-Agree, 5-Strongly Agree)
I would consider the hands-on approach of this activity at a 4 because if I were just lectured on how to do this process then there is no way that I could replicate it. The hands-on nature of this project really helped me to understand how to use a balloon as a UAS.
4. What types of learning strategies would you recommend to make the activity even better?
I would suggest getting more time with this activity as well since I felt like we didn't have enough to get a thorough evaluation of the sports complex.
Evaluation for Field Activity #11:
1. Prior to this activity, how would you rank yourself in knowledge about the topic. (1-No Knowledge at atll, 2-Very Little Knowledge, 3-Some knowledge, 4-A good amount of knowledge, 5-I knew all about this)
I would have ranked my knowledge of total stations at a 4 because we had previously learned how to orienteer ourselves in an earlier class. My dad also spent a lot of time teaching me how to use a map and compass at a young age for hunting purposes.
2. Following this activity, how would you rate the amount of knowledge you have on the topic (1- I don’t really know enough to talk about the topic, 2- I know enough to explain what I did, 3-I know enough to repeat what I did, 4-I know enough to teach someone else, 5- I am an expert)
Evaluation for Field Activity #11:

Following the activity I would rate my knowledge a 5 because I feel very confident that I could go out into the field and navigate my way through the woods.
3. Did the hands-on approach to this activity add to how much you were able to learn (1-Strongly Disagree, 2-Disagree, 3-No real opinion, 4-Agree, 5-Strongly Agree)
I would consider the hands-on approach of this activity at a 5 because it is very difficult to describe to someone how to use a compass and a map. Also, if we weren't able to go out into the field to actually use an orientation course I don't know if some of the class could confidently say that they could do it.
4. What types of learning strategies would you recommend to make the activity even better?
This activity could be improved by having a larger area to work with, however that is not something that is possible at the time.
Evaluation for Field Activity #12:
1. Prior to this activity, how would you rank yourself in knowledge about the topic. (1-No Knowledge at atll, 2-Very Little Knowledge, 3-Some knowledge, 4-A good amount of knowledge, 5-I knew all about this)
I would have ranked my knowledge of total stations at a 4 because we have worked with the Trimble Juno GPS unit all semester. I know how to use the device fairly well and would be able to navigate with it alone.
2. Following this activity, how would you rate the amount of knowledge you have on the topic (1- I don’t really know enough to talk about the topic, 2- I know enough to explain what I did, 3-I know enough to repeat what I did, 4-I know enough to teach someone else, 5- I am an expert)
4. What types of learning strategies would you recommend to make the activity even better?

Following the activity I would rate my knowledge a 5 because of the troubleshooting that our group had to do in the field. I believe that the true mark of an accomplished learner is when they can see their mistakes on the spot and correct them, which is what we were able to do.
3. Did the hands-on approach to this activity add to how much you were able to learn (1-Strongly Disagree, 2-Disagree, 3-No real opinion, 4-Agree, 5-Strongly Agree)
I would consider the hands-on approach of this activity at a 4 because all of the skills used for this activity were compiled throughout the semester. We needed a hands-on approach for nearly everything because in my opinion the best way to learn is to be working with what you are trying to understand.
4. What types of learning strategies would you recommend to make the activity even better?
This activity took the entire class period, but it really could have been longer because it was such a blast. It could also be interesting if the professor chose the routes of each group so that they do run into each other more often which would make the paintball portion of the project even more fun.
